PhD Candidate in Floating Wind Rotor Aerodynamics

项目介绍

About the position

The Department of Marine Technology is looking for a highly motivated PhD candidate that can contribute to the green energy transition through enabling safe and cost-efficient design of floating wind turbines. Increasing wind turbine sizes and interactions between the motions of the floating foundation and the rotor aerodynamics challenge the way we model the aerodynamic loads for floating offshore wind turbines.

The aim of the project is to increase the reliability of floating offshore wind turbines by exploring the use of advanced aerodynamic load models in dynamic analysis. The candidate will investigate the implications of applying mid-fidelity load models, such as vortex- or lifting line methods, in coupled aero-, hydro-, servo-elastic numerical simulations. Phenomena such as large platform yaw, fishtailing, and yaw-roll instability will be the main focus. Existing global analysis models may not correctly capture these situations, which can be critical for design components such as the tower and mooring system.

The candidate will contribute new knowledge about aerodynamic interaction of floating wind turbines, while working in a multi-disciplinary, world class environment for marine technology research.
