项目介绍
We will build an imager based on near-infrared optical tomography (NIROT) that is able to non-invasively image brain oxygenation in preterm and term neonates. These highly sensitive patients often have problems to adjust their oxygenation adequately, which may lead to brain lesions and long-term disability. The hope is that an instrument to image brain oxygenation will enable treatment to prevent these serious complications. In addition, this instrument will also be applicable to many other tissues and patients.
BORL offers state of the art facilities, interdisciplinary teams, a vibrant environment for basic research and medical application. The collaboration with experts from the EPFL (engineering, chip design) will provide an exciting interdisciplinary environment.
We offer a challenging project, which encompasses a broad range of expertise: Hardware development, programming, and clinical application. The project is particularly attractive, because it includes the whole process from development to biomedical application.
Your responsibilities
PLANNED WORK:
The instrument needs to be precise, reliable and fully applicable in a clinical intensive care setting. The work consists of defining the specifications, developing the hardware, firmware and software according to these specifications, testing of the instrument first in phantoms and later in human volunteers and patients (clinical investigation). Detailed documentation and manuals need to be prepared in English.
This project is based on a grant from SNF and it is a collaboration with the EPFL.
Your profile
REQUIREMENTS:
We are looking for an electrical engineer/physicist with a Masters Degree and profound knowledge in hardware (PCB design, FPGA, optical components) and software (C, C++, Matlab, VHDL) engineering. The work also requires a familiarisation with the mathematical background (diffusion equation and its solutions, finite element methods, matrices, machine learning).
Language requirements: fluent English (German would be welcome too).
Special requirements: We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic person.
Preferred starting date 1st of May 2025
