PhD in Materials Science

项目介绍

We are hiring a PhD student to work on flexible x-ray detectors based on novel high-Z covalent organic framework materials in a joint project comprising four research groups from three different universities. The position is in the Surface Physics and Chemistry group at the Laboratory of Organic Electronics.

Your work assignments

Flexible X-ray detectors represent a future technology that can benefit applications spanning several scientific, medical, and technological fields. Our joint project funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg foundation aims to realize flexible X-ray detectors by developing new high-Z covalent organic framework (COF) materials that can fulfil the critical requirements on flexibility, X-ray absorption, and charge transport simultaneously. You will assist COF development through advanced characterization techniques carried out in house and at synchrotron/spallation sources, develop and refine COF film processing, engineer device interfaces to limit charge-trapping defects and carry out device design and fabrication. You will be working jointly with chemists, materials scientists and device physicists to carry out your research, which will involve close and regular interaction with the other participating research groups at Linköping university (led by Prof. Feng Gao), Chalmers University (led by Prof. Eva Olsson) and Uppsala University (led by Prof. Sascha Ott).

As a doctoral student, you devote most of your time to doctoral studies and the research projects of which you are part. Your work may also include teaching or other departmental duties, up to a maximum of 20% of full-time.

Your qualifications

You have graduated at Master’s level in Materials Science, Applied Physics, Nanoscience, or Physical Chemistry or completed courses with a minimum of 240 credits, at least 60 of which must be in advanced courses (Materials Science, Physics, Nanoscience or Physical Chemistry). Alternatively, you have gained essentially corresponding knowledge in another way.

Desirable personal skills and traits for the position are highly motivated, ambitious, problem solving skills and teamwork ability. Research at the Laboratory of Organic Electronics is carried out predominantly in English, so relative fluency is favorable.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities and suitability.

Your workplace

At the Laboratory of Organic Electronics (LOE) we explore electronic and optical properties of organic semiconductors, biomaterials from the forest, and hybrid organic materials. We share a common interest in utilizing the combination of electronic and ionic charge for use in healthcare and biology applications, energy, and the internet-of-things. Our research topics include synthesis, catalysis, material science, theory and modeling, device physics, nanotechnology, photonics, biotechnology, and system design. Our activities span the range from fundamental research to commercialization. LOE currently has ~150 researchers and research students divided into 13 independent research groups, each led by a principal investigator. Read more at www.liu.se/loe.

The Surface Physics and Chemistry group is led by Professor Mats Fahlman together with Assoc. Prof. Xianjie Liu. We do fundamental research on topics that have a positive real-world impact. We use advanced characterization techniques to explore the unique properties and phenomena that occur at surfaces and interfaces of materials where atoms and molecules meet and interact in the solid, liquid or gas phase, often dictating the functionality of both coatings and devices. Our current main research interests involve organic and hybrid organic semiconductors such as pi-conjugated materials, metal halide perovskites and COFs, and their use in energy harvesting, optoelectronic and bioelectronic applications.

Linköping University (LiU) conducts world-leading, cross-disciplinary research in fields that include materials science, IT and life science technology. LiU is one of the largest universities in Sweden and today has 40,000 students and 4,500 employees. The students are among the most desirable in the labour market and international rankings consistently place LiU as a leading global university. Read more at www.liu.se
