YOUR JOB
As a PhD student, you will strengthen our team and conduct research into the dynamics of cognitive effort.
Every day we have to invest cognitive effort to complete tasks successfully. Cognitive effort is a dynamic process. First, we must be willing to put in the required amount of effort and consequently we must be able to translate this willingness into the actual allocation of cognitive resources. Within this project we will use EEG and pupillometry to gain insight into the dynamics of cognitive effort. This will initially be done in neurotypical student populations, but later extensions to ADHD are planned as well. People with ADHD often exhibit problems with cognitive effort, but it is unclear whether this is due to altered motivation or inability.
The project will be hosted at the Department of Experimental Psychology and Department of Experimental Clinical and Health Psychology of Ghent University, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Nico Boehler and Prof. Dr. Roeljan Wiersema.
As a PhD student, you conduct independent scientific research under supervision, but you are also part of a broader team. You present your research results to the international scientific community and write down your findings in scientific publications. The finality of the research is to obtain a doctoral degree.
Job profile
- You hold a Master’s degree in Psychology or another relevant field of expertise (no later than the starting date).
- Experience with EEG, pupillometry and ADHD is welcome but not required.
- You have the ambition to obtain a PhD and have a strong interest in scientific research and the subject of this project strongly appeals to you.

- The intended date of commencement of employment is 1/3/2025
