Function
We are looking for an enthusiastic chemical, environmental or bioprocess engineering scientist with an affinity for analytical chemistry, electrochemical conversions and microbiological conversions. You will study the detection, removal and degradation of organosulfur compounds that are present in industrial waste streams. You will combine electrochemical characterization methods, (bio)electrochemical reactor build-up and operation and co-development of analytical detection methods to design and demonstrate a strategy for removal and degradation of organosulfur compounds. You will implement your excellent reactor operation and creative research skills to develop a treatment technology for organosulfur compounds.
The position is embedded in the chair group of Environmental Technology of Wageningen University, where (bio)electrochemical and adsorption reactor expertise and materials and analytical facilities are available. As part of this chair group, you will also be involved in support of teaching activities and training of MSc and BSc students. You will be co-supervised by Prof. Dr. Annemiek ter Heijne, Dr. Sanne de Smit with secondary supervision by Dr. Albert Guisasola from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Spain).
About the project:
This project is part of the TRAMPOLINe–-MSCA project funded by the European Union to form a training programme to promote the industrial adoption of microbial electrochemical technologies.
Function Requirements
- a MSc degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Bioprocess engineering or related field;
- the ability to work independently in the lab and you enjoy working in a team;
- a strong desire and ability to quickly master new (laboratory) techniques to effectively tackle complex, multidisciplinary scientific queries;
- experience in the field of biological environmental processes (particularly those related to sulfur) and electrochemistry as well as electrical engineering and analytical chemistry will be considered as an added-value.
For this position your command of the English language is expected to be at C1 level. Sometimes it is necessary to submit an internationally recognized Certificate of Proficiency in the English Language. More information can be found here.
