项目介绍
At the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Global Public Health and Primary Care, a full-time PhD-position is available for a period of three (3) years. The position is part of the project “A TRACE of autoimmunity in pediatric cancer (KidImmune)”, funded by Trond Mohn Research Foundation and the University of Bergen.
About the project/work tasks:
- The KidImmune project investigates autoantibody profiles in pediatric cancer patients and their possible involvement in the etiology of the disease. The project has identified a pattern of autoantibodies (antibodies against the body’s own proteins) that is enriched in children with cancer compared to adult patients or healthy controls, and that some of those antibodies are able to enter cells and bind to and probably inhibit their antigens.
- In addition to biological studies investigating the possible mechanistic impact of such antibodies, we will do epidemiologic studies in larger cohorts of patients and healthy controls to determine the level of association with disease and predictive values of selected autoantibody biomarkers. This includes both analysis of samples collected before the patients were diagnosed with cancer and a time series of healthy pregnancies.
- The PhD candidate will contribute to these projects, including both statistical analysis of multiple biomarkers in large cohorts, and large, proteome-wide data sets from smaller cohorts.
Qualifications and personal qualities:
- The applicant must have a master’s degree or equivalent in the field of medicine, public health, biology, epidemiology, statistics, bioinformatics, or a related discipline or be in the process of completing their master’s studies with a planned graduation date before the specified start date for the position. Employment is contingent upon the completion and passing of the master’s degree (minimum grade C). No extensions to the start date will be granted due to delays in completing the master’s degree.
- Experience from relevant research projects will be considered as positive
- The candidate should be able to work independently and in a structured manner, and have a good ability to communicate and cooperate with others
- Ability and motivation to carry out a PhD project
- The applicant must be fluent in oral and written English, see documentation requirements
The applicant’s personal suitability for the position is a significant factor in the evaluation.
Applicant whose education is from another country than Norway, must provide a certified translation of the diploma and transcript of grades to English or a Scandinavian language, if the original documents are not in any of these languages. It is also required that the applicant submit a review from the Norwegian Directorate for Higher Education and Skills (HK-dir) to verify whether the education in question (bachelor’s and master’s degree) is of a scope and level that corresponds to the level of a Norwegian master’s degree. Please see https://hkdir.no/en/ for more information about HK-dir’s general recognition. The review from HK-dir may take some time. Therefore, please submit your application to HK-dir as soon as you decide to apply for the position. If you do not receive a response within the application deadline, you must include documentation from HK-dir confirming receipt of your application. Please note that the automatic recognition offered by HK-dir is not sufficient, and will not be accepted as basis for admission to the PhD programme. Applicants with education from a Nordic country or medical degree from the EEA area and a license to practice medicine in Norway are exempt from the requirement for HK-dir assessment, see Admission requirements at the Faculty of Medicine | Faculty of Medicine | UiB.
