Doctoral Researcher in the Emotional Interaction and eHealth (EIeH) research group for 3 years.
The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Helsinki is announcing a fixed-term, full-time doctoral researcher position. The role commences on January in 2025, with flexibility on the starting date, and extends until december 2027.
We are searching for of a highly motivated and dedicated doctoral researcher to contribute to the Academy of Finland funded international (teams from US and Finland) project META: Self-Programmable Metasurface Networks for Wireless Communications and IoT. In general, the project will attempt to answer key questions concerning materials and devices, network science and embedded intelligence, and human interactions that could impact development of future communication systems. Our team will focus on (a) user needs and expectations related to metasurfaces, (b) how metasurfaces induce changes in work and study behavior and communication patterns, and (c) developing optimized human-metasurface interfaces (potentially also a brain-metasurface interface).
Role Requirements
1. A Master’s degree or equivalent (e.g., licentiate), or imminent completion of such, preferably in psychology, social psychology, cognitive science, computer science, or a related field.
2. Strong scientific curiosity, meticulous work ethic, and excellent time management.
3. Prior experience in HCI will be considered beneficial.
4. Excellent communication skills in spoken and written English.
5. The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Remuneration and Benefits
The starting salary will be set on level 2 of the national salary scale for teaching and research staff at Finnish universities, with a range of 2200-2600 euros/month (pre-tax). Salary progression to levels 2-4 will be contingent on the appointee’s qualifications and experience. A six-month trial period applies.
